I received my mission call in the mail today. For those of you who may not know what exactly that means, I submitted an application to become a full-time missionary for my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, for two years. This "call" is basically an acceptance letter from my church leaders.
So, where am I going? I have been called to serve in the Mexico City South mission. This place right here: Mexico City South Mission. I will be leaving to the MTC (Missionary Training Center) in Provo, Utah on October 16th, 2013. I will be speaking Spanish down there.
Needless to say, I am super excited. Many LDS boys dream of becoming a missionary. "I Hope They Call Me on a Mission" goes the song we learn in primary, usually by the time we are six. For men of my church, we are commanded by our prophet to serve a mission between the ages of eighteen to twenty-five. It's a pretty big deal.
So, what will I be doing for the next two years? According to the handbook I received with my call, my purpose as a missionary is to "invite other to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end." In other words, I get to preach the gospel, and share my testimony in Jesus Christ, and other truths of my religion.
I am extremely excited to share my beliefs with other people, especially those of a different culture that my own. I am excited to learn to love the people I teach. I am excited to become a brother to people from a completely different country and upbringing than I am. I am excited to spend all of my time serving my God.
Also, it will be warm there... That's a huge bonus.
